Crikey! Steve Irwin is still one of my favorite people of all time, and it’s his birthday today.

I remember how heartbroken I was the day Steve Irwin died. I still can’t look at a stingray without getting a little upset. What he did for animal conservation, and for just the general AWARENESS of animal conservation is one of the greatest, most heartwarming things ever.

“I have no fear of losing my life – if I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it.”

-Steve Irwin

He spent his life educating others about some of the craziest scariest animals around. And he was brilliant at it.

Happy Birthday, Steve. I am sure you’re hanging out in the big outback in the sky.

His daughter, Bindi shared this throwback photo of him holding her in one hand and a koala in the other.

Even Google honored Steve today with his very own Google Doodle.

I like to imagine him up there, swimming around, running into the stingray that got him and saying, “Oh hey there little fella! I didn’t mean to scare ya! It’s all going to be alright.”

Even Terri, his wife and all around awesome straight man got in on the action.

Oh, and his son, Robert Irwin is the spitting image of his dad.

He was only 2 when he passed away. When he’s asked about his dad, he says he doesn’t have any memories of him, but says he’s seen some of his shows. 🙂

I can’t actually watch him without getting a little choked up.

It makes me so happy to see him doing his dad’s thing. So happy.

Happy Birthday, Steve! Crikey!
