Starbucks Is Changing Their Iconic Plastic Cold Cups and Honestly, It’s For The Best
Sometimes it’s the little tings that make the biggest impact.
For those of you who order Starbucks iced coffee all year long, if you notice a change in Starbucks’ cold cup design, it’s not just the caffeine talking.
Starbucks has officially changed the design of their plastic cold cups, making their iconic cups more sustainable for the environment.
And just in time for Earth Day too!
Featuring a more environmentally friendly redesign for all of their cup sizes, each Starbucks’ cold cup now uses up to 20% less plastic compared to the version we currently sip from.
In fact, the tall, grande, and venti sized cold cup now use the same lids to create less waste in the environment!
As part of Starbucks ongoing mission to reduce waste and their carbon output in half, specifically by 2030, the new coffee cup design was developed internally at the coffee giant.
Speaking of reducing waste, Starbucks has projected that their new cold cup design will save more than 13.5 million pounds of plastic going into landfills each year!
Now that’s a lot of plastic.
And that goes without mentioning that the coffee chain has also mentioned that they “project to reduce emissions and conserve water in the production process,” when it comes to the redesign of their cold cups!
The eco-friendly cups were also tested in the sturdiness category, by crushing, squeezing, tipping over, and even sloshing the new cups around in circular motions with liquid inside.
Starbucks says that customers and baristas have returned great feedback for the cups when it comes to how strong they are.
The ability to keep drinks cold has also remained the same in the new redesign as well.
Plus, slight changes to the cup’s appearance such as black and white “fill lines” and other accessibility features have also been introduced!
Starbucks’ new cups are expected to debut at select US and Canada locations as soon as sometime this year!
But the full release of the brand new cups won’t be in all Starbucks’ stores until the spring of 2025.
