Well, this is sad news for Russian Starbucks employees.

Starbucks opened its first allocation in Russia back in 2007 and grew the company’s presence to 130 locations in Russia!

Last March Starbucks halted all shipments of products to Russia, and now they announced that they would be shutting down the Russian Starbucks locations permanently.

[Starbucks] has made the decision to exit and no longer have a brand presence in the market.

Starbucks announced in a statement today

These Starbucks location closures will affect about 2,000 Russian employees.

Starbucks will pay the employees for 6 months and they have also stated that they will help those newly unemployed people find other jobs.

McDonald’s announced last week that they would be selling all of their Russian locations and they have been in Russia for over 30 years.

[The] humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, and the precipitating unpredictable operating environment, have led McDonald’s to conclude that continued ownership of the business in Russia is no longer tenable, nor is it consistent with McDonald’s values.

McDonald’s said in a statement

They will actually sell the McDonald’s restaurants to an existing licensee who will then reopen the restaurants under a different brand.

War sucks for everyone and I’m sad that the Russian employees are losing their jobs for something that isn’t their fault.

I hope the entire world can collectively decide to take a major chill pill soon on ALL things, I don’t like the world my kids are going to be stuck with.
