Now that the great solar eclipse of 2024 is officially part of our past, we can count on April’s full moon to make us look up at the sky again.

This month’s full moon is one of my favorites, because it’s often corresponded with a certain beautiful wildflower that likes to bloom during spring.

What’s dubbed the Phlox, this springtime flower sprouts petals that are mixed with pink and purple hues which are absolutely gorgeous to see.

And thanks to this specific wildflower, April’s full moon was called The Pink Moon, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac.

Now if I know what you’re thinking, “Will the full moon light up the night sky in the same color pink as the wildflower it’s associated with?”

Unfortunately, no, while we wish April’s full moon lived up to its name, the moon will not suddenly turn pink.

However, right as the moon rises just above the horizon, this month’s full moon will in fact take on a golden hue which is best to view in an open area!

You can also count on the full moon at this point, to appear at its largest size.

So to make sure you don’t miss this month’s full moon especially if you weren’t able to catch the solar eclipse, you can mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 23.

It’s also important to note (and write this down), that the full moon will reach peak illumination at 7:49 p.m. Eastern Time!
