Dear Everyone, Stop Being So Mean

Lately I’ve found myself wanting to leave my house more often than before. And you know what I’ve found? People are MEAN.

Here’s the thing – I think ever since technology has made it easier for people to express themselves, the world has become a meaner place.

However, it used to seem it was just internet lash outs and people hiding behind a computer. People seemed to be kinder to your face.

Lately, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore…

The other day I ran into Walmart for my first time in months and in the mere 30 minutes I was in the store to get a few things, I was given death stares, almost ran over by 2 employees shopping for online pickup (who didn’t even say sorry) and someone butt in front of me in line.

What happened to the kindness? What happened to the generosity? What happened to those basic manners like, “excuse me”?

I’ll be the first to admit that my upbringing wasn’t the greatest but I was taught one major thing – respect. Respect for others around you.

Be Kind.

Be helpful.

Be courteous.

Put all the politics aside. Put the pandemic aside. Why are people so dang mean?

Look, I know everyone handles stress differently and right now is one of the most stressful times in my life too but if we throw all kindness and all compassion for others out the window, we are truly doomed.

The human race is built on these basic and simple principles to care for one another and when we stop doing that, when we stop being kind, we are dooming ourselves. We are dooming future generations.

So be kind.

Be that example for our children.

Even when the world seems to be falling apart, the one thing we all can do is spread kindness.

It costs nothing and can give you that massive dose of those happy hormones we could all use right now.
