Have You Ever Wondered Why Hobby Lobby Doesn’t Carry Halloween Decor?

I am in full Halloween mode right now. Like, I could decorate for Halloween at this very moment.

So, of course, I am anxiously waiting for stores in my area to stock for Halloween and to my surprise, many haven’t yet.

I remember years ago that Hobby Lobby used to be THE place to visit for Halloween and Christmas mid-July but turns out, Hobby Lobby hasn’t been stocking Halloween decor (at least my store they haven’t) the last 2 years or so and I started to wonder why…

Well, apparently Hobby Lobby no longer stocks real Halloween decor items due to their religious beliefs.

In fact, people have been asking employees why Hobby Lobby isn’t carrying Halloween and this was a response:

Last year when I went to Hobby Lobby and asked why they don’t have Halloween stuff, they said it was because of the religious and historical background tied to the roots of Halloween. They said it goes against the company’s religious beliefs to carry Halloween stuff.

Now, of course you’ll find all sorts of pumpkins and fall themed items but you won’t find things relating to Halloween like zombies, spiders, witches, skulls, etc.

Some people are reporting their local Hobby Lobby carries the cutesy Halloween decor while others say they have NONE. So, it’s not entirely consistent.

But if you’re looking for the ya know, the real good spooky Halloween stuff, it’s not at Hobby Lobby.

And it’s too bad because I bet if Hobby Lobby did sell Halloween items, it would be ADORABLE and sell like hot cakes.

So, as you are out shopping for Halloween decor this year, you might want to skip Hobby Lobby.

  1. I don’t see how they could change their religious beliefs in two years. The hobby lobbies I shop at always had tons of Halloween for the past 15 years I’ve been shopping there. This was the first year they had nothing, it was very strange. I’m not Evangelical but I don’t think their beliefs change that easily? All the ones I know celebrate Halloween.

  2. Don’t shop at a place that doesn’t support women’s or employee’s rights due to their religious beliefs, period.

  3. I used to shop there a lot, but dropping the Halloween decor was one more reason to quit going. Plus they start taking down the Xmas stuff around mid-December. Guess they have to hurry and get that 4th of July stuff on the shelf.

  4. Not inline with Christian values? They didn’t have an issue before. Nor did Hobby Lobby have an issue when there was a federal case against them for purchasing antiquities and not full disclosing what they were. They had to surrender the pieces and pay a $3 million fine for it.

  5. Anything can be demonized if you look hard enough. Easter and Christmas seasons were and still are pagan holidays to many. Is Hobby Lobby also going to pull those merchandises? Pagans also still celebrate autumn, are we going to now no longer see autumn-based items at the store? The Hobby Lobby in my area used to sell Halloween items, and suddenly this year I noticed that they no longer did. We were getting ready to do some Halloween celebrations, after not really being able to celebrate Halloween in 2020. So, we started with Hobby Lobby. The fact that the imaginations of Halloween are no longer included with the Hobby Lobby merchandise has put a damper on their store. Will they also stop using vehicles to transport their merchandise because heinous murderers have used vehicles to commit their crimes? Where does it stop? Like I said, anything can be demonized.

  6. I just love how companies pick and choose which pagan holidays they will be celebrating all in the name of religion.

    1. @Linda, It is their choice, their beliefs. No one is forcing you to shop there.

    2. @Phyllis, mnaaa,mnaaa, mnaaa,mnaaaa, mnaaaa, maaaa

    3. @Phyllis, exactly!!!! Just keep on driving by to your favorite store.

  7. Ah yes, Hobby Lobby. The same company where an employee in NJ told a Jewish customer asking for Bar Mitzvah cards that “we don’t cater to you people.” The same company that takes out ads on holidays calling for America to have a Christianity-based government (apparently they’ve never heard of our founding principle of separation of church and state).

Joann’s has great Halloween stuff, as do many local craft stores along with the seasonal Halloween stores. Spend your dollars where folks of ALL faiths (or no faith) are respected instead of Hobby Lobby.

    1. @DrB, The “founding principal” was intended to protect those who citizens who choose to practice their faith. To be free from persecution. Hobby Lobby is a Christian based business . As is their right by our constitution. They hold true to their beliefs. It is the right of the very American to practice their religion. (Not have it excluded from their business or work place, but to PROTECT it) This is a privately held business NOT a government entity. No one is forced to shop there. Additionally, There are many religions, in fact, that do not celebrate the ghoulish aspects of “All Hallows Eve”. Certainly their prerogative. The ignorance displayed by single employee does not represent the entire company.

    2. @DrB, you should be more concerned with the govt hating Jews than hobby lobby

    3. It was to protect religious freedom And it’s not in the Constitution Nor the Declaration of Independence. It is implied in the first amendment to the bill of rights. They have every right to not sell Halloween items.

    4. @June, WHAT ? Half the government IS Jews . You watching cnn ?

  8. I love Hobby Lobby! I’ll go to Michael’s or Home Goods for my Halloween decor. No biggie!

  9. I am happy they stopped selling Halloween decor. It’s nice not to walk down an isle filled with scary demonic looking decor. I love shopping at HL

    1. @Jo Degs, yep plastic skeletons and black cats are DEFINIETLY demonic and if you think that , your part of the problem not the solution . Superstitious , which intern is based on ignorance .No they don’t have to sell anything they don’t want , but this reasoning is asinine . And again we DONT have shop there ! Right again! And not I problem , I WONT [shrugs] no skin off my patootie

  10. If you want spooky stuff go to demonic dolls on etsy.

  11. Their business, their choice. We need to respect it. That’s why we have the freedom to choose as Americans! If you don’t like it, you also have the freedom to choose to shop elsewhere!

    1. @Susie Quentin, do you feel the same way about stores that require mask mandates? Freedom to choose.

    2. @Carol Hobbs, Oh, no, Carol. It’s discrimination when she doesn’t agree with the policy or the politics. Only private businesses that favor her politics should be allowed to have “choice.”

  12. How is that too bad? It’s their freedom and their prerogative to sell whatever they want in their store if you don’t like it don’t shop there if you want to have a store that’s different than that either go to a different store or have your own store and do what you like.

    1. @Chris Kearney, I absolutely agree with you. Private businesses, in a free market, should be allowed to make their own decisions. The mask mandate should have been left up to the individual owners. In the same vein, what a business chooses to sell should also be the decision of the owners. However, I will take my business elsewhere. I feel halloween is an American holiday, which I have always celebrated in the absolute joy of trick or treating. Because we do live in a free society, Hobby Lobby can have their opinion and I can have mine. Happpy Halloween to all!

  13. It’s interesting that Hobby Lobby is pushing its religious beliefs and agenda to the exclusion of all others. It’s nothing more than religious chauvinism and bigotry. The only conclusion one can make is is that they wish to cater to Christian beliefs as though that’s the only religion in the world. Even so, it’s as much as Hobby Lobby’s business decision to make as it is the choice of those who believe in religious freedom to vote with their dollars and shop elsewhere.

    1. @Mo, How is their decision not to sell Halloween decor ‘PUSHING’ their religious beliefs on anyone? Go to any muslim country and you will see that pushing a religion really is.

    2. @Mo,
They are Christians and have the right to not cater to the beliefs not of their own. LOVE AMERICA for giving us freedoms to choose.
You have the right to shop somewhere else that caters to your beliefs…. Like The Halloween Store.

  14. Kudos to Hobby Lobby! Don’t get me wrong, I am guilty of getting caught up in the Halloween fun. But in recent years when I became aware of its true meaning, our family and most of the entire area still do Halloween but instead we call it fall fest and the kids dress up in anything non-scary. The reason we like the make believe scary stuff is because it gets our adrenaline flowing but we know it’s not real so we know we can enjoy the rush without harm. So we so foolishly thought. The Bible says for us to guard our mind and our hearts. In other words, put garbage in, then garbage comes out. Just to make more garbage. Yeah from the beginning all the scary stuff is fun and exciting. Then we get bored and look for more. This is where the problem is. When we’ve shaped our way of thinking a certain way, then that’s the path we tend to continue to follow. Everything has a ying and a yang. You gotta learn what the balance is. You might can handle it and know when to say when but that innocent child that is desperate for attention offered any kind doesn’t. We all are guilty of promoting evil in some form or fashion but looking at the way the world is today, we all need to do our part to stop it. Especially when you are in the public eye and have alot of influence over the public as Hooby Lobby does. Just a side note, Halloween is the biggest holiday when it come to celebrating. Do your research about the druids. It’ll make you think twice.

    1. @Iwona Funderburk, All Christian holidays are based on Pagan holidays….

  15. Well they might not carry premade Halloween Decorations, but they do carry things that are needed to make some wicked items! Now price wise….well that’s another story!

  16. This hasn’t always been the case with Hobby Lobby. Last year was the first year my 3 local Hobby Lobby stores I’ve consistently gone to since 1985 that they haven’t had Halloween decor. In fact, a lot of my Halloween decor comes from Hobby Lobby. I really don’t know why they’e jumping on this bandwagon after decades of celebrating it.

    1. @Ali, when you learn better you do better❗️❤️?

  17. Do they realize that Christmas is a pagan holiday? LOL!

    1. I meant to say that it WAS a pagan holiday.

  18. Halloween is the Eve of all Saints. The next day is a Holy Day, All Saints Day, a Christian holy day. So Hobby Lobbies explanation makes no sense.?

    1. @Mary, are you aware that Halloween is one of the two high holy days of the Satanic church❓. . And that on that night there human sacrifices as well of animals, all around the world⁉️ I think it would be a better choice to be in prayer for those lost souls rather than spending time upset because a store doesn’t carry the decorations we want. Just a thought❤️?

  19. Thank you Hobby Lobby, for standing up in your beliefs.

  20. Its so interesting that we all shout from the rooftops that we love diversity and differing opinions, yet many of the same people try so hard to conform others to their beliefs. Diversity is freedom, stop trying to fit people into your precious box. Differences are fantastic! Good on ya Hobby Lobby! Having something you believe in and stand firm on is a beautiful thing.

  21. It’s too bad that they follow their beliefs? It would be “adorable” if they betrayed their convictions for convention? What an insensitive, intolerant, ignorant and impossibly rude article. You do you Hobby Lobby, I’m not skipping shopping here, they have adorable stuff for autumn and I respect their decision based on their beliefs.

    1. @Kati, Not selling Halloween merchandise wouldn’t be issue if the company founder wasn’t such a hypocrite. Working with a terrorist group to illegally obtain ancient artifacts. Keeping their non essential business open during a pandemic and endangering employees lives because God supposedly told them to. Only a couple things from a long list that should make any decent person sick at thought of giving business to Hobby Lobby.

    2. @Renee, Agreed. It was not until about 1999 that the hypocrites closed their stores on Sunday. Then they started raising the starting pay for employees and touting it in the news. What they did not tell the public and their employees was that because a store’s payroll is a percentage of sales the number of store employees would be cut because they were not going to increase the percentage for payroll. The only way that would not happen is if the store increases its sales. Unfortunately for the employees the 2007 depression hit. Then they worked their employees to death and still do.

  22. I’m so glad to see a business to put morals above money. That’s why God has truly blessed them and other businesses like Chic Fil A. Thank you Hobby Lobby for standing your grounds!??

    1. @Jeannie, I agree 100%! Stand for what you believe in regardless of who talks you down. It shows your moral character… And the lack of such in others.

    2. @Cynthia, RUDE & unnecessary. You are what’s wrong with this world today, with that ” do what thou will” mentality. This world would be a lot better off if more people lived by the bible and had a relationship with God. Period!

    3. @Jeannie, What morals? They only pretend to have morals.

    1. @Pam, like you have your opinion and beliefs so do they. Just shop some place else. Hope you have a wonderful day

    2. @Liz, true except , if someone didn’t carry Christian decor or banned if entirely…or when someone says happy holidays.. instead of merry Christmas..it’s suddenly a war on Christianity ?

  23. they have their rights and beliefs. there’s plenty of places to get halloween stuff.

    1. @Me, where’s the hypocrisy? And if they were greedy I would think they would still be selling Halloween stuff?

    2. @Diane, It’s funny how the Bible says do not judge one another but that’s all you are doing that’s what’s wrong with this world nobody respects one another nobody is kind to one another and everybody judges one another so stop and the cycle stops
