Lightyear is already taking the world by storm but everyone is wondering, why didn’t Tim Allen voice Buzz?

The original Toy Story trilogy depends on the cast of Tim Allen (Buzz) and Tom Hanks (Woody) so why would Disney ever deviate from that?

And don’t get me wrong, I love Chris Evans and I am sure he is great as Buzz but it’s not the same when I think of Buzz’s voice.

Why Doesn’t Tim Allen Voice Buzz in ‘Lightyear’?

The simple answer as to why Tim Allen doesn’t voice Buzz in Disney/Pixar’s Lightyear is because they aren’t technically voicing the same character.

According to Writer-director Angus MacLane, “Lightyear,” is categorized as a “sidequel” to the “Toy Story” franchise.

In an interview, Angus MacLane explained that Buzz the action figure, voiced by Tim Allen, “is a little goofier and is a little dumber, and so he is the comic relief. In this film, Buzz is the action hero. He’s serious and ambitious and funny, but not in a goofy way that would undercut the drama.”

So, basically, they could be two different Buzz Lightyears in different dimensions/timelines explaining why Chris Evans was ultimately the one who voices Buzz.

I am truly curious to see how this movie is but I will have such a hard time not hearing Tim Allen’s voice as Buzz.
