The time has finally come… we get to see the fate of Aquaman but more importantly, we get to see more wet Jason Momoa.
One thing that has been looming over this movie’s release is whether or not, Amber Heard would continue to be in the movie.
After all, she was found guilty for lying about abuse from Johnny Depp and ended up having to pay him in the defamation case.
Since that time, people have begged and pleaded for DC to drop Amber Heard and her character from the DC franchise including Aquaman 2 (Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom).
There was even a petition to get her removed from the movie which amassed over 4.6 million signatures to date.
Well, as it turns out, Amber Heard is still in Aquaman 2 and the new trailer proves it…
The trailer for the sequel was released on September 14 and shows Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry who is now a father and king of Atlantis.
Then as the trailer goes on, it shows him being called to help fight Black Manta, portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
To help defeat Black Manta, Aquaman enlists the help of his half-brother and former king of Atlantis, Orm, played by Patrick Wilson.
We do know that while Amber Heard seems to still be in this movie, according to reports, it will be minimal.
In fact, the film’s director, James Wan, told Entertainment Weekly this “Aquaman” sequel was always intended to focus on Arthur and Orm’s relationship.
“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go,” Wan said. “The first ‘Aquaman’ was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm. So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”
So, while people may be upset she is still in the movie, her role won’t be the focal point of the movie.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will premiere in theaters on December 20, 2023.
