‘Buttered Saltine Crackers’ Are The Hot New Snack Trend Everyone Is Talking About
Buttered Saltine Crackers are the snack trend everyone is talking about right now. They are an easy 2-ingredient snack that you can make in seconds!

Buttered Saltine Crackers
I am not going to lie, until a few weeks ago, I had no idea Buttered Saltines were a thing.
I guess it could be that I never really had grandparents in my life to teach me this!

Apparently, this has been a thing for many years and the majority of people I have talked to know about this easy snack and ate them as a kid.
However, some were just as confused as I am but I have to say, I’ve tried it and it is DELICIOUS.
Well, whether you’ve tried it or not, Buttered Saltine Crackers have made a comeback as an easy and tasty snack you make it just seconds! Seriously, you need to try these!
Oh, and while you are at it, give our Christmas Crack a try (you can enjoy it anytime of the year).

How to Make Buttered Saltine Crackers
Ingredients:
- Saltine Crackers
- Butter – I like the sweet cream butter

How to Make Them:
Start by softening your butter just enough to smear them onto the cracker. If you don’t, you risk breaking the cracker.

Using a butter knife, smear a thin piece of butter onto the top the cracker.

Eat and enjoy!

Now, some people have even said you can flip the cracker upside down so the salt side hits your tongue and the other side is covered in butter. That is also delicious.

You can even put these on a cookie sheet and bake them for a few minutes to make them warm and then apply the butter so it’s a bit melty.
I have to say, I am sad that I just learned this tasty snack but I am so glad I did!

Lol !! This is not a hot new trend Latinos have been doing this for more then 80 years!! Try this with coffee!! Also try this with yellow cheddar cheese and Guava paste. I personally love the unsalted crakers with this combination. You will thank me!
Is this a joke? Are you serious–you need a recipe for buttered saltine crackers???? 3 year olds make them! And really, you’ve never done this? They have served butter and crackers with salad in restaurants for years! Have you been living under a rock? I don’t mean to be rude, but really??? A recipe for saltines and butter??? Well, you can go all out and add a dab of jelly to that too—or wait–spread cream cheese on a saltine to be really fancy!!! Enjoy.
@Dora Ann Moenster, Yes, I have been doing this since I was a kid. With 7 kids in the family my parents didn’t always have snacks that some of the other kids had and this was ours. I still eat them; sometimes with mayo instead of butter.
One of my favorite quick snacks is grape jelly and American cheese. Spread grape jelly on a saltine. Break a slice of American cheese into four equal squares. Place over jelly. Boom! Open face sandwich.
Where were your parents? You were neglected 😀
Saltines plain with butter
Saltines with butter and cheese
Saltines with butter and jam
Saltines with peanut butter
Saltines plain in soup
Saltines and ginger ale when unwell
@Marie, yes ? ?
“hot trend” why even say that lol …this is a thing even before my parents were born. 50+yrs “trend”
@fahim, older than that but she just discovered it and shared it… I’m 60 and have eaten it since I was a child I remember when we ate out the would serve crackers and butter while we waited on our ordered food! Now days I don’t see that in restaurants..
I have eaten tested for years and love them with my chili….
Add a little jelly or jam! Makes a whole new flavor for them!! Buttered crackers have been my go-to snack since I was a small child (in my late 60’s now). I think it might have started as a depression era snack.
This isn’t new. Buttered saltines has been a snack among the PA Dutch for many years.
I grew up eating these with my mom and grandma! My grandma would even mix blue cheese into softened butter and have that on her saltines! I was eating these back in the’70’s!
@Karen, jow about the 1950’s? I was eating them then. Maybe even sprinkle just a bit.of sugar on them.
I have been eating these for 20 years, didn’t realize it WASN’T a thing??♀️
I miss the days when saltines came in “windowpane” squares of four crackers, rather than the “stack packs” of single crackers prevalent today. Take two “windowpanes,” butter one on the unsalted side, cover the other on the unsalted side with either peanut butter or a cheese slice, sandwich them together and you had a dandy snack or light lunch.
Seriously!?!? Been eating this my whole life!
@Sharon, Me too!
I was born in 1955 I also love them with peanut butter and butter. Like little sandwiches with chili, tomato soup or chicken soup.
… *FACEPALM*
welcome to at least a half-century ago
Definitely not “making a comeback.” In order to do that it would have to have disappeared at some point. Every Puerto Rican I know grew up on these (with coffee). And I know we’re not alone!
So glad they posted the recipe so I could make these delightful saltines with butter! I was a little confused without the recipe, butter on the saltine or saltine on the butter! LOL?
@Wanda, ???
Girl, you need to get out more… try pouring a bag of peanuts in a bottle of coke. If you need the recipe, email me!
been doing this for years LOL
Really? You have to have instructions on how to butter a cracker??? This tells us how future adults will be, having to be taught common sense things
@Yvonne Right on I guess they never had parents,
No knife needed; I keep my butter at room temperature all the time so I just swipe the cracker through the butter!!
For some reason these were amazing with canned pears!!
Even better with Irish butter
I would put Butter and Jelly… yum
Love them. Try sprinkle some cinnamon sugar……that’s dessert.
Did you really a recipe on how to put butter in a cracker??? With pictures??? Must be a slow day at the office.
@STEEEEEVE, I was just going to comment the same thing! I mean really, crackers and butter!!
