Just living on planet earth is pretty dang stressful right now. Everywhere you turn, people are panicking and fearing the worst.

Panic, fear, and stress can make us feel pretty awful and run down, and that is the LAST thing we need right now!

Here are 10 things you can do RIGHT NOW to feel better amongst the chaos.

1. DO SOMETHING TO KEEP YOUR MIND BUSY

This would be the PERFECT time to do that thing you have been putting off. Want to finish that book you started 3 months ago? Have you been avoiding cleaning out your nightstand drawers? Maybe you’ve even been wanting to work on learning a new language. Why not write that novel you’ve been mulling over for years?

There, literally, couldn’t be a better time! Just do it. Allow yourself the time to decompress, and do something for YOU.

2. MEDITATE, PRAY, TAKE A QUIET MOMENT

Center yourself by doing that thing that centers your soul. I take a few minutes, a couple times a day, to pray with purpose. Meaning, I stop what I’m doing, and focus my breathing and mind to the task of talking to my higher power.

You may choose to meditate for a few minutes, just breathing calm and steadily for a few minutes, or even doing some yoga. The point is to take your mind off all the things going on around you for a moment or two. This can do WONDERS for your stress levels!

3. HAVE A PLAN FOR YOUR DAY

Have a set schedule for your days. If you normally go to bed at 10pm, and get up at 7am, keep doing that! Have a set time to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Have a set chore time, and a set play time.

If you have school kids, you can have set times for them to work on school things. Reading, multiplication fact, practicing their instruments, whatever will keep their minds going.

4. LEAVE YOURSELF ENCOURAGING NOTES

Break out those sticky note pads that are hidden in your junk drawer. Write yourself positive reminders, happy notes, or even scripture verses on these sticky notes, and put them around your house. Your bathroom mirror, your refrigerator, the kitchen window, on the corner of your television — put them in places where you will see them, and they will remind you that it’s all going to be okay.

5. DON’T WATCH THE NEWS 24/7

Having that constant stream of — let’s face it, often negative information — can be very stressful. You should definitely stay connected to what’s going on in the world, but set a timer for the listening to, or watching the chaos. Don’t let yourself spend more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time dwelling on all the negative things out there.

6. JUST SAY ‘NO’ ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Don’t get involved in debating all the negativity. It only feeds into the stress and hysteria. If you don’t like what a person is saying, or don’t agree with a post, it is okay to just let it go, and keep on scrolling. I give you permission.

You will be AMAZED at how much better you feel by just staying out of the debates.

7. MAINTAIN THOSE CONTACTS

Just because you are stuck in quarantine — whether self inflicted or government mandated — doesn’t mean you have to live in isolation. You have Facetime, email, telephones, skype, and even social media.

It can be VERY stressful being lonely. Get “out” there, and keep those relationships going. Call your brother, Facetime your sister, email your coworker, spend a BIT of time on Facebook. Just stay connected.

8. DO THINGS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY

They say laughter is the best medicine. Do things that keep you happy!

Allow yourself time to binge watch your favorite show, get crafty, or have a family game night. Being in quarantine doesn’t mean you have to hate life. Make it as enjoyable as possible.

9. SING IT OUT

Have an impromptu karaoke session with yourself, or you can even include your family. There is just something about turning up the music, and singing your heart out, that will do wonders for your soul and your outlook on life!

10. CRY

Yep. I said it. Allow yourself 3 minutes to freak out and cry, then let it go. Sometimes you need that huge release that comes from a bucket of tears.

Just a word to the wise — do this behind closed doors. If your kids see you cry and freak out, they will not understand. You could end up stressing them out, which can make your stress level go through the roof.
