Alan Rickman’s death is one that shook me. I have been a fan of him since I was a little girl and have always considered him one of my absolute favorite actors.
Rickman died in 2016 of cancer, and the world hasn’t been the same since. He has always been such an iconic character and will always have a place in my heart. So to find out we have a chance to get a view into his, has me thrilled.
Alan Rickman kept 27 volumes worth of diaries spanning the 25 years of his career. And those are about to be turned into a book, The Diaries of Alan Rickman. I don’t know if I have ever been more excited to read something before.
This book is suspected to be released in the fall of 2022, but the anticipation is already here. These diaries date back to the early 90s during Rickman’s career with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
These diaries will also cover his time during his roles as Severus Snape from Harry Potter, Hans Gruber from Die Hard, and Sheriff of Nottingham from Robin Hood.
“I’m delighted that Canongate will be publishing Alan’s diaries, and couldn’t have wished for a finer appointment of editor than Alan Taylor,” says Rima Horton, Rickman’s widow. “The diaries reveal not just Alan Rickman the actor, but the real Alan – his sense of humour, his sharp observation, his craftsmanship and his devotion to the arts.”
I, for one, cannot wait for this to come out. Alan Rickman struck a chord with me at a very young age, and I can’t wait to read about the life that he lived behind the screen that we all fell in love with him for.
