Apparently, Cashews Grow From Cashew Apples And My Mind Is Blown
I was today years old when I found out that cashew nuts are in fact not a nut!
I know, your mind is blown especially since we all know that cashews are a fan favorite nut.
They’re crunchy and sort of sweet, but apparently they get their looks and taste from apples that grow on trees!
That’s right, whether you want to believe it or not, cashews are grown from cashew apples which grow on trees, scientifically called Anacardium occidentale which are native to the country of Brazil.
The apple, with the seed still attached is picked from the tree branch and the seed (the cashew we all know and love) is pulled off, dried, and steamed by hand.
The apple itself has a sweet-sour taste, who knew! The more you know.
