According To The Homeland Security, You Can Sanitize Your Face Masks In The Instant Pot
When I think of my Instant Pot, I think of delicious dinners that cook super fast and don’t require me to heat up my house to make it.
Well, turns out, the Instant Pot can clean those nasty, germ-infested face masks.
Yup, according to The Homeland Security, you can sterilize your N95 masks using your Instant Pot.
In order to do this, you will need:
- N95 Mask
- Instant Pot
- Gloves
- Paper Bag
- Stapler or Paper Clip
- Water
- Rack (the ones the Instant Pot come with or an egg stand works fine)
You then put the gloves on to stick the mask inside the paper bag. Once inside, dispose of your gloves and seal the bag shut using the paper clip or staple.
Stick water into the bottom of the Instant Pot and stick the stand on top. You want to prevent the bag from touching the water and getting your mask wet.
You then use the sous vide function on the Instant Pot, which doesn’t use pressure. Once this function is selected, set the temperature to 149 degrees Fahrenheit on a 30-minute timer. After the time is up, it will take about one hour for the masks to dry and then they’ll be ready for use again.
Remember, N95 masks are meant to be used only once but if you are experiencing a mask shortage, this can be a great way to sterilize your mask in between uses.
I am not entirely sure if this works for cloth masks too although, I’m guessing not.
Here’s how you can clean your face masks and whatever you do, DO NOT stick your mask in the microwave.
