I have been watching Cruel Summer since it released on Hulu, and it has had me glued to my chair. This show is so meticulous in all of it’s details, you feel like you’re solving a crime yourself.
This show follows two teen girls: one the victim of kidnapping, and one blamed to have seen it and said nothing. It shows both of their lives fall apart as all the pieces of the puzzle come together.
But this week’s episode was more than just that. As the unpeeled the layers of the truth behind what actually happened with the “kidnapping”, it unveiled something every scarier…a grooming process.
This episode has Kate speaking to her therapist about the real events that took place behind her kidnapping. And the therapist explains to her that she had been groomed for months upon months to put her in an isolation with her abductor.
The realism of how often this happens in real life is astounding. Children and teens think that they have found someone to confide in, when instead, they are walking straight into the arms of a predator.
I already had so much respect for this show. But hitting real topics like these are so important. I will definitely be watching this until the end.
