The Emmy Awards Will Be Aired ‘Live’ This Sunday Night. Here’s Everything We Know.
This is definitely going to be a weird year for the Emmy Awards. Yes, they are still going to be live — sort of.
They will be virtual, with the presenters presenting via webcam, and winners accepting their awards via cameras in their homes.
Will there be some hiccups? The producers are counting on it, and say they plan to just roll with the punches, and manage the best that they can.
This will be the first MAJOR award show that Hollywood is going to try to pull off since this whole quarantine mess started. Yes, there were the VMAs and the BET awards, but those aren’t considered one of the major, primetime awards shows. You might disagree. Ha!
Jimmy Kimmel will host the show. Is he worried things will go wrong? Not at all.
I have a weird masochistic streak where I enjoy putting myself in difficult situations. So if the worst happens and it all breaks down, there will definitely be a part of me that is amused by it. I sometimes step outside my body and laugh at myself. So whatever happens, it’ll be OK. I mean, it’s just a television show. It’s not like I’m flying a jet.
The Hollywood Reporter
Having learned from other awards shows that have tried to pull off a virtual show, the Primetime Emmy Awards is going to try something new. They will be sending out 130 cameras around the world to 20 different cities and to 10 countries.
The expectation is that not everything will go smoothly, and that Kimmel will be available throughout the night to “jump in as soon as anything goes wrong,” Hudlin said. “We’re essentially going to be making things up as they go along. …We are open to the X factor, being in partnership with all these nominees.”
