Just about everyone knows that nothing on the internet is private or safe.

However, this new Facebook feature takes privacy to another level.

Apparently, there’s a new facebook feature that will rat you out if you screenshot a certain message just proving nothing is ever private.

Mark Zuckerberg

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently made an announcement telling users they should be aware that if you screenshot while using the end-to-end encrypted message option, it will cause a notification in the chat informing the other person you took the screenshot.

New update for end-to-end encrypted Messenger chats so you get a notification if someone screenshots a disappearing message. We’re also adding GIFs, stickers, and reactions to encrypted chats too.

The encrypted messaging option “adds extra security and protection to your messages” by only allowing the two people involved to access its content.

Surprisingly enough, the comments on Mark’s post have been mostly positive. Looks like people want to be aware if their messages are being saved at a later time.

It looks like this only affects the encrypted message option and not the regular Facebook messengers types of messages you are likely used to.

However, if you choose to use encrypted messaging, Facebook says that nobody but you and the person you messaged can read that message.

“No one can read your messages or hear your calls except the people who have these special keys – not even Facebook,” according to the platform’s Help Center.

So, what will it look like if someone takes a screenshot during one of these encrypted messages?

It basically rats you out by showing this message:

Mark Zuckerberg

“(Person) took a screenshot”

So, now you know! And if you’re looking for another way to lock your privacy down, here’s how to turn off Facebook tracking.
