Google is planning on deleting old accounts that have recently been inactive, we know this, but we what didn’t know is how soon and what you can do to prevent yours from ending up in the trash.

Now if you currently have an account that’s been accumulating dust over the years, here’s what you need to do in order to save it from being deleted.

What Google refers to as their Inactive Google Account Policy, this policy is all about removing accounts that have not been active for at least two or more years.

That’s at least 730 days of your account being at a standstill, and lets just say that if you haven’t used your account for that long, maybe it’s best to say your goodbyes.

For those of you who want to keep your account, Google considers these actions for an account to be considered active:

  • Utilizing Google Drive
  • Watching a YouTube video
  • Sharing a photo
  • Downloading an app
  • Using Google Search
  • Using sign in with Google to sign in to a third-party app or service

Emails by Google will be sent out to users with accounts that are at risk of being deleted and to give an option to those who wish to save their accounts.

So keep on the lookout for an email sent by the boss man.

It’s also important to note that if your account does get deleted, your data and content will be too.

December 1 of this year is also the earliest date that accounts will be deleted.
