This Homemade Hot Chocolate will have you never wanting to reach for the store bought hot cocoa mix ever again!

I’m not going to lie, I usually reach for the Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate when my kids are begging for their hot chocolate fix.

But, homemade hot chocolate isn’t much more labor intensive, and it is soooo much better. When MOMMY is begging for her hot chocolate fix (or when I want to impress) I like to throw together this super simple hot chocolate recipe.

You can’t get freaked out by the amount of sugar in this easy, decadent chocolate milk. You aren’t going to make it every single day. This is for special occasions — like Christmas, Birthdays, and Mondays (because we all know that Mondays are the hardest day of the week).

Here’s How To Make Easy Homemade Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 4 Tablespoons of Cocoa Powder
  • 4 Cups of Whole Milk (You can use whatever milk you like, but Whole makes it super creamy.)
  • 4 Tablespoons of Sugar (Don’t freak out.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of REAL Vanilla Extract (I just eyeball it.)
  • 1/2 Cup of Chocolate Chips (Wanna get REALLY fancy? Add White Chocolate Chips.)

Directions

  1. Turn your stove on to medium heat.
  2. Grab your whisk, and stretch your arm, because you are going to want to whisk this mixture continuously. Put about 1/2 Cup of the Milk and all 5 Tablespoons of Cocoa Powder into a saucepan. Whisk it together until it is pretty smooth.
  3. Here’s the hard part (I’m kidding) — dump in the rest of the ingredients. Whisk, Whisk, Whisk. You want to get it smooth and hot, but DON’T let it boil.

That is literally all there is to it!

You can top it with a swirl of whipped cream, marshmallows, some chocolate sprinkles, maybe a few chocolate chips, crushed peppermint candies, or get all gourmet and add some shaved chocolate to the top of the hot chocolate.

I like to add in a Bobs Sweet Stripes Peppermint Stick. They melt really easily, look gorgeous with hot chocolate, and add a peppermint flavor that’s out of this world!
