Queen Elizabeth Has Issued A Response to Harry and Meghan Stepping Back From The Royal Family
I’ve been waiting for this day as many others…
Queen Elizabeth Has Issued A Response to Harry and Meghan Stepping Back From The Royal Family.
To be honest, as soon as the news broke that Harry and Meghan wanted to step back as royal members from the family, I was both excited and scared for them.
I know from following the royals that Grandma, Queen Elizabeth is quite traditional so it would almost seem upsetting to her that her grandchild wants to step back from royalty.
Needless to say, I am surprised and happy with the way she has handeled things so far – like a true Queen.
She actually issued a statement last night regarding this entire situation in a letter that was released publicly.
The letter reads:
In addition to that letter, there was another statement issued on the Royal Website saying:
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are grateful to Her Majesty and the Royal Family for their ongoing support as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
As agreed in this new arrangement, they understand that they are required to step back from Royal duties, including official military appointments. They will no longer receive public funds for Royal duties.
With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations. While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty.
The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their wish to repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home.
Buckingham Palace does not comment on the details of security arrangements. There are well established independent processes to determine the need for publicly-funded security.
This new model will take effect in the Spring of 2020.”
So, from my understanding, she is supportive of their decision but Harry and Meghan are stepping back from royal duties associated with their titles and also will be returning money they have borrowed to refurbish Frogmore Cottage.
Woah!
All I can say is, good for them. They put themselves and their family first and I can’t wait to see what they do with this new found freedom.
I wish Harry and Meghan all the best.
