Can we get real for a minute? What is the deal-i-o with Target? I can go in there for ONE thing, and walk out with a cart FULL of things I think am sure I can’t live without.

I know I’m not alone, here. I don’t think there is a single person that has EVER walked into a Target, and walked out with only one item. It is my firm belief that this is IMPOSSIBLE.

Turns out, I’m RIGHT!! The geniuses at Target have designed the store so that it hypnotizes its customers.

Okay, it doesn’t really HYPNOTIZE you, although I swear that giant bullseye is just screaming for me to stare directly at it! But, the marketing experts design the stores in a way that guides shoppers to their next awesome Target find!

“We know that some guests want to grab a coffee at Starbucks and explore the aisles, so we’ve added features like dynamic product vignettes throughout the store that help guests envision how things will fit into their lives. Our revamped Beauty department looks like a specialty shop and is designed to invite guests to try out products, and in Home, products are cross-merchandised and displayed in lifestyle settings, so guests can imagine what they’ll look like in their own homes.”

Joe Perdew, Target’s Vice President of Store Design

So what does this mean? Well, the aisles guide you along.

You may find a throw pillow you like, but then on the next aisle, you will find a lamp you HAVE to have to go with that pillow you just picked up. Then, on the next aisle, there will be a picture frame that EXACTLY matches the throw pillow and the lamp you now have in your basket. And so on — and so on — and so on.

It’s a vicious cycle that doesn’t stop until you are out of the store.

I can tell you from experience — that is EXACTLY what happens. I’m completely guilty of falling into their trap. My front room looks like a Target store display.

I should be upset that they “trick” me like this, but I’m not even mad. It’s Target. I need all the things. It really is my happy place!!

Now, give me my Starbucks coffee and a big red shopping cart — I have some shopping to do.

While I’m at Target, I’m going to check out their new Disney Clothing Line. I already know I’m going to love it!!
