I am just going to throw this out there – I am a bit of a baked potato snob but only because those restaurant style baked potatoes RUINED ME.

By ruined, I mean for the longest time I couldn’t ever make my potatoes taste the same.

Sure, microwave baked potatoes are tasty but not nearly as tasted as a loaded baked potato with a salty and crispy potato skin.

So, my husband worked to create the perfect loaded baked potato recipe and he NAILED IT!

What toppings typically go on a ‘loaded’ baked potato?

Most loaded baked potato recipes (including this one) contain:

  • Butter
  • Cheese
  • Bacon
  • Sour Cream
  • Chives

What are some good side dishes to serve with baked potatoes?

Honestly, we typically have the baked potato served as the side dish. However, if you’re looking to add something to your baked potato dish, I would suggest steamed vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower or carrots. I’d also suggest adding a protein to the dish like chicken, beef or pork.

Baked potatoes are almost always given as an optional side dish at restaurants but you’ll almost always pay an additional fee to make it loaded.

Skip the added costs and make your own homemade loaded baked potatoes and you’ll never go back to spending more for the same tasting potato again!

How to Make The Perfect Loaded Baked Potato

Start with fresh potatoes, we like to use the Idaho potatoes found in our grocery store.

You’ll then want to wash your potatoes and remove any excess dirt from the skins.

Next, take a fork and poke several holes all over the potato to help it vent.

Next, rub the entire potato in olive oil covering it entirely.

Place onto a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil and add freshly ground cracked pepper and sea salt.

Next, bake your baked potatoes on 350º F for 1 hour – flipping the potatoes at the 30 minute mark.

Once done, remove from the oven, cut open and add your toppings.

I like to start with the butter so it can melt into the warm potato.

Then I add the cheese so it can melt.

Then I add the cooked bacon (diced), sour cream and then top off with chives.

Enjoy!
