The Trigger Warning The New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Movie Needs

Let me start this by saying that I saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 this weekend, and thought it was really good.

I even took my teenager to see it, and she said it was one of the best movies she’s been to.

Of course, that may be because Chris Pratt is in it. LOL!! She has a bit of a crush.

But, the more I thought about it, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a bit — shall we say — dark.

Perhaps it should come with a bit of a trigger warning, or several of them as the case may be.

I mean, it’s a superhero movie, so you expect that there will be a super villain that’s a bit of a narcissist.

But, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 goes a bit beyond the things you expect from a normal superhero movie.

Before we go on, I must tell you, there WILL be spoilers ahead. Proceed with caution.

First of all, we get to see Rocket’s backstory — how he became the Rocket that we know and love.

He grows up, a baby racoon, in a dark laboratory with other groups of animals who are the focus of experiments by a man they call High Evolutionary.

If I’m honest, all the animals are pretty creepy. But, that’s not the hardest part.

In what is a pretty emotional scene, we see all of Rocket’s friends get shot dead by High Evolutionary.

Cue what should have been a trigger warning for animal cruelty.

Then, the Guardians land their ship on a planet that’s like a second Earth.

It is pretty much Earth, but all of the inhabitants are mutants. They were put there by High Evolutionary — a sort of social experiment.

When things don’t happen the way High Evolutionary wants, he decides to completely destroy the planet.

Cue what should have been a trigger warning for genocide.

But, perhaps the hardest thing of all to watch were the hundreds of mutant children in the cages.

Of course, it was the work of High Evolutionary.

It was a bit disturbing — especially when the ship starts exploding, and the kids are in danger of dying.

Cue what should have been a trigger warning for children in cages.

So, while I still think it’s a really good flick, you might want to think twice before taking your kids to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Maybe give it a watch once through, and decide for yourself if it’s something you want the littles to see.
