The Weeknd has become such a known name.

Especially after his spectacular Super Bowl Halftime Show back in 2021.

So, it shook me just a little bit when The Weeknd announced that his time sporting the moniker might be coming to an end.

The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, says it might just be time to put the pop star persona to bed — permanently.

I’m going through a cathartic path right now. — It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter.

The Weeknd

So, what the heck do we call him? Abel? Mr. Tesfaye?

I’m so discombobulated right now.

I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.

The Weeknd

The Weeknd is working on a new album right now, and — never fear — it will be put out as The Weeknd.

But, this might be the last time we see an album by The Weeknd.

The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.

The Weeknd

So, call him The Weeknd while you can. You might not be able to for much longer.

What do you think about The Weeknd shedding the name we know him by?
