This Teacher Told Kids If They Didn’t Bring Food, They Couldn’t Partake In Their Class Christmas Party
‘Tis the season to the Holly and Jolly. Unless you are in one classroom in Mississippi.

Takaria Scott, on Facebook, received a note home from her daughter’s school regarding a Christmas party Sariah’s class was going to be celebrating.

There was only one little problem with this letter. Circled in bright orange marker was a special note to the parents.
It stated that it was the “philosophy” of the teacher that if the kids didn’t bring food to share with the class, they didn’t get to enjoy the Christmas goodies with the rest of the class.

Just off the top of my head, I can think of a VERY good reason this is an absolutely HORRIBLE idea. What if the family doesn’t have the money to go out and buy food for a classroom worth of kids? I’ve been there. It sucks, and it’s embarrassing.
Now for these kids to be between 6-7yrs this should not be a philosophy. Kids are kids man. This is definitely not acceptable in my eyes

I have to say, I completely agree with Takaria.
I know it might suck for the teacher if the parents don’t all participate, but you never know what the backstory might be for these families. It was totally unacceptable to send this letter home to families.

I’m sure the teacher was not INTENTIONAL with — I’ve tried to think of another word, but — her words really came off as acting in a bullying capacity.
I would love to give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it would have been a good idea if she had worded the letter a bit differently.

Luckily the School District intervened with a positive statement, assuring parents that all the children would be able to participate in the classroom party.

Good for the District, and I’m so glad that all the kids are going to be able to enjoy this party together.
