It is every person’s nightmare for a fire to break out in their home. Even more so if you have children.

Unfortunately, a family in Michigan had to endure such a fate. Ray Lucas and his girlfriend had left their 18-month-old twins with his mother to run to the corner store to grab some milk, and returned to their home engulfed in flames with their daughters inside.

When they arrived, his mom was standing in the yard, frantic, and screaming for help. 23 year old Ray ran into the home to save his daughters, as any dad would.

The entire house was covered in flames, but he risked his lives to save his twins, Malaysia and Milan, who were in their crib in the basement. He couldn’t see through the flames and had to feel his way to them.

He carried them to safety and then went back for his niece, who was trapped on the second floor, and eventually had to jump out of a window as he caught her in the back yard.

Ray burned both of his arms, ears, the right side of his face, neck, and suffered eye damage. The doctors were concerned he would go blind, but has since recovered his eyesight.

The twins also sustained serious burns, both second degree and third degree. Malaysia also has to undergo physical therapy in hopes to regain movement in her arms and joints.

The family lost their home and all of their possessions. The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation, but until then, a GoFund me has been created to help the family.
