I just about needed someone to pick up my jaw off the floor because I can’t believe that happened (but I am also so glad it did).

In case you didn’t know, tonight marked the 80th Annual Golden Globes and the event was hosted by Jerrod Carmichael.

During Jerrod Carmichael’s opening statement, he got real and pretty much called out The Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Why?

Well, if you don’t remember, after the last Golden Globes event, people were outraged by the lack of black representation at the event.

That is important to know to understand why Jerrod said what he said…

In the clip, Jerrod walks out onto stage and says:

“Welcome to the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards. I am your host Jerrod Carmichael.”

Okay, innocent enough. But then he continues…

“And I’ll tell you why I’m here, I’m here because I’m black”.

The audience laughs but Jerrod doesn’t even smurk. He knows the real reason he is there and he’s making it known that he knows…

He then recaps why the Golden Globes didn’t air last year referring to the bombshell reports originating in the Los Angeles Time in 2021 that the notoriously insular HFPA didn’t have a single Black journalist among its membership.

“The Golden Globes did not air last year because the Hollywood Foreign Press… I won’t say they are a racist organization, but they didn’t have a single Black member until George Floyd died,” Carmichael said, taking a seat at the foot of the stage. “Do with that information what you will.”

Wow!

I mean, I am glad he said something but I am sure the tension is the air tonight was THICK.

You can watch the full clip of what he said below.
