This Company Wants to Pay You $20,000 Plus Free Beer If You Hike The Entire Appalachian Trail
Was it the $20,000 or the free beer that caught your attention? Maybe both? You could get both if you hiked the entire Appalachian Trail.
But did you know that the entire Appalachian Trail goes through 14 states, is 2,190 miles long and would take you 5-7 month to hike?
A brewery in Virginia called the Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company is located right off the Appalachian Trail. They are looking to hire a “Chief Hiking Officer” and the job starts in the spring of 2021.
We’re located just off the Appalachian Trail at mile marker 842 and since opening, we’ve hosted thru-hikers who want to rest and recharge on their zero-day. These folks really understand how life-altering it is to slow down and take in what’s going on around you. They’re the ones who inspired our Chief Hiking Officer position.
Hayes Humphreys, the brewery’s chief operating officer, told Travel + Leisure.
If chosen for the job, you will get $20,000! You’ll also get free hiking gear! They will fly you to the trailhead (free transportation), free beer, and they will throw some huge beer parties along the way! One of those parties will be at their mountainside brewery!
So what exactly does the job entail? Well, you complete the hike of the entire trail, post photos on social media, and enjoy some beer and nature! Sounds like a freaking a+ deal!
I would love to get away for a bit, too bad I can’t walk like that haha! For real though, only enter if you really like to hike and it is totally something you are in to!
This is a great opportunity for a hiker who loves beer and is looking to shake up the pace of life by spending next summer on the Appalachian Trail. Given the state of things today, we could all use some restorative time in the great outdoors.

If you want to give it a go, you do need to be 21 years old, I mean…beer right? You also need to live in one of the 14 states where Devil’s Backbone sells its beer. Those states include the following… oh and D.C. too!
