Growing a garden has its rewards; for example, planting your own produce, flowers to decorate your home, showing the neighbors your green thumb, and attracting wildlife that can also benefit from the growth of your garden.

Currently, honeybees and monarch butterflies are declining in population due to habit loss as the main contributor.

Did you know that the garden in your backyard can help both species depending on what you plant?

To help save the honeybees, you can grow plants that attract them.

Honeybees love herbs such as lavender and sage, including flowering bushes and trees.

Plus, the lavender plant is a great addition to any garden to give your space a pop of color other than just the color green across the board.

Keep in mind to use less pesticides and weed killers in your garden as these two products are harmful to honeybees.

Beekeeping is also a popular hobby that can drastically help the honeybee population; so if you’re up for the challenge, consider keeping a beehive on your property this summer!

Not to mention, the delicious honey from honeybees to help heal a sore throat or to add to your cup of tea in the morning tastes better than the jars of honey you can from the grocery store.

The monarch butterflies are another pretty pollinator that have also shown a drastic decline in population.

This insect thrives off of a vital food source called the milkweed, which has recently been disappearing rapidly.

So how can you help?

You can plant milkweed in your garden to attract the beautiful insect which in return will also produce tall stalks with pretty pink flowers to add beauty to your garden!

So while you’re planting your spinach, lettuce, and tomatoes this summer, consider helping out our friends the honeybees and monarch butterflies this year!
