This Teenager Was Rescued From Her Kidnapper Thanks To A Distress Signal She Learned On TikTok
As a mother of 3 daughters, kidnapping is one of my biggest fears!
I insist that they always have a friend or even one of our giant dogs with them when they are out and about in the neighborhood.
I really just don’t trust anyone anymore and the older I get the more dangerous it has become for our kids.
There are literally predators everywhere!
Recently a teenager from North Carolina was missing and was thankfully saved from her captor by a police officer from Kentucky.
She is only 16 years old and thankfully remembered a hand gesture she had learned that represented violence at home.
As she traveled in the car with her captor, she was flashing the signal to passerby and someone noticed and recognized the hand signal.
The motorist that spotted her hand signal immediately called 911 to report that they had spotted a girl making the distress signal as they passed by.
The complainant was behind the vehicle and noticed a female passenger in the vehicle making hand gestures that are known on the social media platform ‘Tik Tok’ to represent violence at home — I need help — domestic violence.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Office statement
If you don’t know what this gesture is, it is done with one hand, palm facing out, tucking your thumb into your hand, and then you close your fingers around your thumb “trapping it”.
The girl had learned the distress signal because it had become viral on TikTok, sometimes social media teaches us helpful things.
Who knows how many people she made the gesture to, but thankfully someone noticed and followed them while calling 911.
Because of this, police were able to locate them and save this poor teen!
The man has been arrested and charged with unlawful imprisonment and possession of a matter of sex performance by a minor.
I’m going to make sure my girls know this distress signal as well.
You never know what could happen and it could save a life.
