Expecting a new bundle of joy? First off, congratulations! Being a parent is one of the most rewarding aspects of life. It can also be one of the trickiest, specifically, when it comes to preparing for your baby. You have to know what the essentials are and how much of you need of that item. Preparing ahead helps you save money and time in the long run. One of the main essentials is diapers so I wanted to put together The Ultimate Guide to Buying Diapers to help parents everywhere prepare for what lies ahead.

The Ultimate Guide to Buying Diapers

Unless you want your home covered in messes and unpleasant smells, diapers are necessary. Just like many other things in life, you have options when it comes to diapers. So many in fact, it can be a tad-bit overwhelming even for a second or third-time parent. But don’t you worry, I am here to help by sharing some tips and providing the ultimate guide to buying diapers!

Choose The Type of Diaper You Want

Your first decision has to be made on whether you want disposable or reusable diapers. For me, disposable was the way to go. Personally, I have enough laundry to do and the cost of reusable diapers was quite a way from my budget so I decided on disposable diapers. While there are pros and cons to both, you have to choose what is right for you and your baby. Assuming you have decided on disposable too, it brings me to my next tip!

Choose The Brand of Diapers You Want

So now you’ve made the choice to use disposable diapers, what brand to go with? I can say from personal experience, store brands just do not hold up to the name brands. I used to be an extreme couponer and would use diapers that were cheap or even free. Cheap or free does not equal quality. In fact, my son had far more accidents with leakage using store brands than he ever did name brands. So my recommendation, is you get what you pay for! Ask yourself a few questions when choosing a brand:

  • Will they keep my baby dry through the night?
  • Do they hug my baby properly?
  • Are they the right size for my baby? (usually based on weight)
  • Are they soft and won’t irritate my baby’s delicate skin?
  • Are they a good price for the quality and amount I am receiving?
  • Can this brand be purchased in bulk?

I promise once you have the answers to the questions, choosing a brand will be easy!

Determining a Stock Up Price

I mentioned earlier, I used to be an extreme couponer and in my day, there was a stock up price for diapers. This basically meant that when I could find a deal on diapers that was within what I was willing to pay per diaper, I would stock up. I am talking I would buy for months ahead of time. That way, when it came time to running out of a box, I didn’t have to pay full-price, I could just get another box out of our storage and I would save time and money. My personal stock up price is $0.20 per diaper and under. Buying in bulk from Amazon is the way to go.

Did you know that babies on average need about 6-10 diapers a day? That can quickly deplete your stash so make sure you stock up on diapers when ever you can!
