Well, I think I’ll just live on ice for the rest of my life. I am a bit HORRIFIED to say the least.

Today I was browsing in the internet when I accidentally came across information that we all may be eating bugs without knowing it.

Now, yes, I am fully aware there are probably tiny bugs in everything, especially fresh fruits and vegetables. I also know that people eat bugs willingly.

I mean, have you seen that video of the bugs coming out of the strawberries? YUCK.

But as it turns out, food makers PURPOSELY using an ingredient that is made from bugs. It is is called Carmine.

Carmine is a red dye used to color foods. It is also called cochineal which is the bug it comes from. They are native to Latin America where they live on cacti.

Once the bugs are harvested, they are literally ground up and almost make a dust like substance that is then used as dye in foods.

Carmine is added to everything from yoghurts and ice creams, to fruit pies, soft drinks, cupcakes and donuts.

It was actually an ingredient in Skittles up until 2009 so, we probably all ate them during our childhood.

One of the biggest shockers that I found was it is added in a yogurt I eat ALL THE TIME. Yoplait Strawberry Yogurt. Right on the label, it says “Colored with Carmine”. ACK!

Now, I really won’t be living on ice BUT I wish this was more wildly known because I want to choose whether or not I eat bugs. And I don’t!

Aside from this being gross, it is a problem if you are a Vegan or Vegetarian because technically, you are eating bugs and you may not even know it.

You can watch more information on it below. Again, I literally cannot unsee it.
