This is great news! With so many Americans facing debt and unemployment rates rising, checking your credit report is very important!

Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion collect all of the data that shows your payment history, outstanding payments in collections, open accounts, and inquiries from credit applications.

You’ve always been allowed to get your credit report for free, but only once per year from each company. For the next year that all changes.

All Americans will be able to check their credit report once per week for the next year. The plan was announced in a joint statement from all three of the credit reporting bureaus.

We are uniting as an industry to help people know the facts about their financial data. We are making credit reports more accessible more often so people can better manage their finances and take necessary steps to protect their credit standing.

Mark W. Begor, CEO of Equifax; Brian Cassin, CEO of Experian; and Chris Cartwright, CEO of TransUnion
