The company, which relied heavily on home sales consultants, was started in the mid 1970s. It reached its peak in 2000, with over $1 billion in sales. It was virtually out of commission by 2018.

Now, unfortunately, these basket are found more in antique stores and second-hand collectible stores. As of 2018, the company has officially ceased operation.

Or, has it? It was just announced that this company, known for its beautifully woven baskets, is about to get a breath of fresh new life from a new manufacturer.

According to Columbus Business First, “Ohio-based Dresden & Co. has entered into a license agreement to manufacture the baskets again, in a deal with New York City consumer products conglomerate Xcel Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ: XELB) and Chicago-based Hillco Global, which have acquired the intellectual property of the one-time distinctive brand of baskets and consumer goods.”

There are plans, by the new owners, to make this beautiful work of architecture into a luxury hotel in 2020. It currently has seven stories and more than 180,000 square feet.
