Ella Casano knows all too well how scary it is to be in a hospital attached to intimidating IVs bags hanging from large, sterile medical equipment.

About five years ago, she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP for short). She spends many hours attached to IV poles just like this to get the infusion treatments she needs to manage her illness.

What did she do to help these sessions be not quite so scary? She came up with a way to “hide” the IV bag.

Armed with a cute teddy bear, a glue gun, and an idea, she got to work. She came up with a prototype that would hold an IV bag of fluids, allowing doctors and nurses access to the bags, while still allowing her to get the needed infusion without so much intimidation.

Known now as the Medi Teddy, these cute bears have a mesh pouch in the back to hold the IV bag or bottle. They also have a spot at the top of their heads to hang them right from the IV pole.

Hospitals everywhere could soon benefit from her invention! The bears have been tested by nurses, and tweaked with their suggestions. Medi Teddy is all ready to be produced, and soon these, often life-saving, treatments may not have to be quite so scary or intimidating.

Kudos to Ella for turning what could be a scary situation into something so sweet!
