Billy Porter Will Play A Genderless Fairy Godmother In The New Live Action ‘Cinderella’
There is a new live-action Cinderella in the works, and it ISN’T going to be released by Disney.
It will be released by Sony — AND this isn’t going to be your mother’s Cinderella from the 1950s.
This is going to be a Cinderella for a modern-day audience, and the Fairy Godmother is going to be played by none other than Billy Porter.
In the ORIGINAL Disney’s Cinderella, the Fair Godmother is a sweet grey-haired grandma-type fairy, who turns Cinderella from a poor servant into a beautiful Princess.
That’s not what you will get THIS time around!
Billy Porter is here to bring some extra MAGIC to the role of the Fairy Godmother, playing it as a GENDERLESS character.
This Fairy Godmother will be less grandma, and more Bibbity-Bobbity-Billy!
I mean, come on!! He’s over-the-top, and he doesn’t care who knows it!! He is PERFECT for this role!!
I would expect nothing else of Billy Porter. Ha!
It hit me when I was on the set last week, how profound it is that I am playing the Fairy Godmother — they call it the Fab G — Magic has no gender. We are presenting this character as genderless — at least that’s how I’m playing it. And it’s really powerful.”
