Dear Person That Is Spending Christmas Alone This Year…

For those of you that normally travel to be with family on Christmas that have chosen to stay home and alone this Christmas, I’m sorry. I know it’s tough.

This year has been one of the weirdest and strangest times of my life. For me, not a ton has changed. I was already a chronically ill person that avoided going out a lot.

I already chose to stay home the majority of the time. Our kids already homeschooled, so we also didn’t have to go through the back and forth like a lot of you have with virtual learning.

I already worked for myself as well as for someone else from home. So that didn’t change too much either.

We also never go anywhere for Christmas. We spend it in our own home with our kids and my mom will come over. The only thing missing (and it sucks) this year is my oldest daughter and my grandson, but that had nothing to do with Covid.

It breaks my heart that there will be some people staying home alone on a holiday. You don’t know me and it may not mean too much to you, but I care.

I want you to know that you matter, you are loved, you are so important. Please do not let depression and loneliness take over.

This is just one season of your life.

We all go through times that are hard and lonely. Those are the perfect times for us to take the power back and kick depression to the curb and work on ourselves.

You’re probably thinking, oh yea… that’s easy for you to say, what do you know? Well, I am diagnosed with severe depression and also the “suicide disease”, I truly do understand.

Every day is a fight for me to keep going. So yes, I do understand what it’s like. Most people don’t think about suicide on a daily basis, I do. I am not “suicidal”, but I have “suicidal thoughts” daily because of the pain I live with.

What I want you to know is that you matter so much and this will pass. It’s a bad chapter, not a bad book. So keep going and turn the page!

If you are struggling, please take advantage of the online counseling services that are available during the pandemic. There is no shame in getting help!

Things will get better and we need you to be around for it!
