February 2, 2020 is A Rare Palindrome That Hasn’t Happened in Over 900 Years
Today is a super cool day. Not only is it Super Bowl, it also Groundhog Day AND February 2, 2020 is A Rare Palindrome That Hasn’t Happened in Over 900 Years!!
Cool, right?
So, what exactly does this all mean?
Well, 02/02/2020 is unique distinction of reading the same backward and forward when written out in eight digits (02022020) in multiple date systems, according to University of Portland professor Aziz Inan.
“We are so lucky to have such a special palindrome date occurring in our lifetime because it’s so rare,”
Inan told USA TODAY
While many palindromes have happened over the years, most of them only work if written in 7 digits like 1-10-2011.
Today’s date is unique because it’s 8 digits and is an international palindrome meaning it works whether you write the date as “Month/Day/Year” like in the U.S. or “Day/Month/Year,” as many countries do.
What’s even more interesting is that there won’t be another one for 101 years on March 3, 3030 (03/03/3030) which I mean, the majority of us will NEVER see.
The last time this happened was 11/11/1111 – more than 900 years ago.
So, there you go. Today is a super cool day that we all get to witness.
12/02/2021 will be the next palindrome
