Grammarly is Pretty Cool

I use Grammarly to check grammar online because it’s better than having my grandma proofread my erotic novels for me.

I kid, I kid! I love having my grandma proofread those. 🙂

A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by Grammarly. They asked me to try out their service and write a review. So, the first thing I did was upload twenty or so pages of a very polished book. (A story that has been through multiple passes from editors, agents, and peer readers.

It takes a minute or so once you upload your document, but the status bar does a good job of keeping you updated in real time so the wait is kind of fun.

Now, I will say that my writing style is very casual. I am one of those “knows the grammar rules well enough to break them” types. (Or at least I like to pretend I am.) So, this is an instance where I don’t think Grammarly is very helpful to me.

I had another story in my big pile of manuscripts that I’d switched from past tense to present tense, though…. and THIS is where Grammarly rocked the house. I had probably read through it a hundred times, making sure I changed all the tenses, but you know the deal– no matter how many times you read it– you miss stuff. Grammarly TOTALLY helped me with that. It found all the instances of tense changing I’d missed and I was able to fix it right there on the screen!

HAPPY Dance!

So, if you’re working on something like that with a story: point of view switching, tense switching– then grammarly could save you hours of time re-reading to make sure you’ve got everything ironed out.

All in all, I was pretty impressed with this feature and will definitely use it again!
