How To Take Care Of Your Mental Health During These Hard Times

We know that the world can seem to be a pretty scary place right now. But know that you are not alone.

Public officials have asked for everyone to practice social distancing to keep COVID-19 from spreading. This isolation can cause anyone to feel alone. But please remember that you are not.

“Right now, it’s OK to not be OK,” Val Arkoosh, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, said during a news conference earlier this week.

“This is a very unusual and unprecedented situation that we find ourselves in, and it’s changing every single day, and it’s perfectly normal to feel unsettled.”

But instead of focusing on the chaos all around, take this time to do things that you love.

Read that book you haven’t had time for. Do that art project you’ve been putting off. Learn a talent you’ve been intrigued by.

One way to reel in the stress is to feel a control over your own life.

Establishing a schedule or routine can bring a calming focus during this time.

Exercise is another big factor for your mental health. Adding a simple yoga routine or even a quick at-home workout to get your blood pumping will help boost your serotonin levels.

Also, be sure to reach out to your friends during this time.

Even though you can’t go physically go hang out with your friends and family during this time, you CAN utilize modern technology to reach out to them.

Video chats, group online games, and even a simple phone call can help you feel closer while you have to stay away physically.

Please take care of yourself and reach out to others if you are in need of some encouragement and love. And above all, remember you are not alone. We will get through this together.
