Jussie Smollett is the actor from Empire that was allegedly attacked late last month in what appeared to be a heinous hate crime.

Sounds awful, right? There’s only one problem, there’s a massive chance he made it all up.

Basically, here’s what went down– a couple of weeks ago we all woke up to news that Smollett had been attacked in a terrible hate crime late one night.

It was awful. The story was that they’d done things like tie a rope around his neck and throw bleach on his face.

It was one of those things that when you read it, you shook your head and were ready for “whatever scum did this” to “get what’s coming to them.”

Well, the story started looking a little thin. There were security cameras everywhere, yet no attack had been seen.

Jessie refused to give his phone to the police when they were investigating the attack.

It was just like one thing after the other made this story look a little too good to be true. It came out that one of the attackers actually worked on the set of Empire.

So, when they were finally brought in for questioning the police did their thing and then they let the alleged attackers go. The police had this to say:

“We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation,” the Chicago Police Department said in a statement. “We’ve reached out to the Empire cast member’s attorney to request a follow-up interview.”

A Source From The Chicago PD told USA Today

Of course the big question is WHY did he do this? Why when we are fighting for rights and freedoms of all in this country would he pull something like this?

Supposedly it was because we was being written off the show.

UPDATE: So it turns out the reason he did it was because he received some hate mail and nobody was really upset enough about it. Because it was just a letter.

So, in a dramatically dramatic move, he decided to show them just how bad things could get…

Um, what?

But, FOX (the network that produces the show) says that’s just not the case. They released a statement.

“The idea that Jussie Smollett has been, or would be, written off of ‘Empire’ is patently ridiculous. He remains a core player on this very successful series and we continue to stand behind him.”

So who knows what is happening. What we do know is this is getting crazier and crazier by the minute.

Jessie is still sticking to his story. He said in an interview on Thursday with ABC’s “Good Morning America” that those doubting him “don’t even want to see this is the truth.”

But when the only suspects in the case were released after questioning, it definitely looks suspicious.
