If you like to Netflix and Chill you should know those binge sessions are about to cost you more.

Netflix is raising prices next month (May 2019) and you’ll want to prepare your bank accounts for it.

Yes, some are reporting their prices have already increased but this is a new announcement for May subscription increases.

As we all know, Netflix is far cheaper than any cable service provider so it’s an easy change to swallow looking at the big picture, but it still hurts whenever prices change abruptly!

BANGKOK ,THAILAND – May 28, 2017 : Close up Netflix app icon on Laptop screen. Netflix is an international leading subscription service for watching TV episodes and movies.

Netflix subscribers were emailed earlier this week (if you haven’t received it, your email is yet to come) saying the price change will increase $1 – $2 over the next billing cycle.

The price of the basic plan will rise to $9 from $8 per month, the standard plan that includes HD streaming on two devices will go from $11 to $13 per month, and the price of its premium plan will increase from $14 to $16.

Keep in mind these prices do not include taxes.

So, not too much of a change but it’s certainly worth knowing.

Why the price change?

Netflix has invested tons of money into creating original content including Netflix Originals which seem to be quite popular so it makes sense they need to increase prices to keep up with demand of viewers to have fresh, new and engaging content.

However, in a recent press release regarding the changes, Netflix said:

“We change pricing from time to time as we continue investing in great entertainment and improving the overall Netflix experience.”

Again, we can’t argue that.

Especially when you compare Netflix subscription prices to other streaming service providers such as HBO for example, their monthly fee starts at $15 a month and is limited in its offerings.

Personally, with as much value as Netflix brings to the table, I don’t mind a few dollars here and there. I will start gawking at the idea when Netflix prices start charging a lot more than they are now.

Until then, I’ll remain an avid Netflix user.

As a reminder, if you have not received an email regarding this update, Netflix is actively sending out emails to users and giving a 30-day notice before prices increase. Your email date will be dependent on your monthly billed date.
