Finally some good news about the Coronavirus! (who knew that was possible?) The new variant, Omicron, appears to be less scary than originally expected!

Because of how incredibly contagious Omicron is, experts are expecting it to burn through quickly and not stick around for long!

Those who are vaccinated with a healthy immune system are expected to not be affected much, if at all, by Omicron. In fact, if you’ve had your third shot of the booster, the current signs are just a sore throat and light fatigue.

The Northeast has been battling Omicron for the last couple of weeks, but it is expected to have a falling case rate as soon as mid-January. South Africa went through a similar battle and was down 36% in cases in less than a month.

The only patients that are appearing to be hospitalized during the Omicron outbreak is the unvaccinated, and even those are having lesser symptoms than the original strain of the Coronavirus.

Every patient I’ve seen with Covid that’s had a 3rd ‘booster’ dose has had mild symptoms. By mild I mean mostly sore throat. Lots of sore throat. Also some fatigue, maybe some muscle pain. No difficulty breathing. No shortness of breath. All a little uncomfortable, but fine.

Most patients I’ve seen that had 2 doses of Pfizer/Moderna still had ‘mild’ symptoms, but more than those who had received a third dose. More fatigued. More fever. More coughing. A little more miserable overall. But no shortness of breath. No difficulty breathing. Mostly fine.

Most patients I’ve seen that had one dose of J&J and had Covid were worse overall. Felt horrible. Fever for a few days (or more). Weak, tired. Some shortness of breath and cough. But not one needing hospitalization. Not one needing oxygen. Not great. But not life-threatening.

No matter what vaccination level you are on, it seems like it’s still less scary than it was before. But as usual, be sure you’re taking the proper precautions to stay safe out there and hopefully this will all be over soon!
