‘Reading Rainbow’ has been off the air for more than 15 years!
The show had been a favorite among young children since 1983 and my oldest daughter loved this show so much when she was little.
The new updated version is called ‘Reading Rainbow Live’, and like the original will focus on education using cultural exploration, music, field trips, and a book of the day.
We know it was a tough pandemic for parents, for caregivers, for teachers. We wanted to make sure that we have kids engaging with books and we’re going to use movement and music to engage kids in learning. And we really want kids to see themselves in the books that we’re choosing, and we’re going to use diverse creators, authors, illustrators, settings.Amy Guglielmo (creative director) told CBS News
This version will also have a group of hosts called the ‘Rainbows’ which will allow a more diverse cast for children to identify with.
We think the rainbow, this fun and diverse ensemble cast, will allow children to just identify with these hosts, and it’s just a totally new experience and it’s truly an experience.Amy Guglielmo (creative director) told CBS News
Kids will also be able to actually engage with the live show through a virtual platform, how cool is that?!
Whether they are asking questions of a cast member, following along to a dance routine, or being rewarded for answering a question correctly, viewers will be motivated to participate, and parents will be gratified knowing that their children are being entertained and intellectually stimulated.Press release
‘Reading Rainbow Live’ is set to be released in early 2022, and I can not wait to watch it with my grandson!
