Here’s When You Can Watch The Tau Herculids Meteor Shower

I have missed out on almost every single recent meteor shower because of cloudy skies.

I am hoping so hard that I get to see the Tau Herculids meteor shower this month though!

The Tau Herculids meteor shower will, weather permitting, be visible across most of the United States.

The Eta Aquariids peaked in early May and I was unable to view them due to the cloud coverage here in Texas, but it turns out that the Tau Herculids shower isn’t guaranteed even with clear skies.

Bill Cooke from NASA says that the Tau Herculids meteor shower is an “all or nothing” event.

By that he means, we may not see anything at all due to the meteor continuously breaking down and creating much fainter light in the sky from the smaller pieces.

NASA does expect the Tau Herculid radiant to be high in the sky and the new Moon should provide less light to wash them out of sight.

However, they can not guarantee that it will happen because it depends on how fast the debris field was traveling when it separated from the comet itself.

Estimates from NASA are that the Tau Herculids meteor shower should peak on the night of May 30th, 2022, and last into the morning of May 31st, 2022.
