The army has narrowed down the best material for DIY face masks.

As we all know, there are many tutorials in creating your own face mask from home and there are a lot of sources stating what material is best to use!

However, it can be super overwhelming and if you’re still asking questions, the army has the answer!

U.S. Army/Staff Sgt. Steven M. Colvin

“We knew that claims about masks and face coverings were exploding all over the internet, and we wanted to make sure that any decisions about materials these agencies make will be based on proven science, said Caretti.”

David Caretti, Chief of the Center’s Chemical Biological Protection & Decontamination Division

300 tests later and spraying salt aerosol at different swatch materials, according to the Chemical Biological Center, a four-ply microfiber cloth is one of the best materials to use for a make it at home face mask.

“It filters out over 75% of particles. In comparison, the N95 mask used by healthcare workers in hospitals can filter 95 percent of particles or greater, stated the Chemical Biological Center.”
