Gas prices are soaring across the country and if you are feeling it, you should know, you are not alone.

While there are no quick fixes or a major gas price correction in sight, there are ways you can make the most of the gas you purchased with your hard-earned money.

7 Easy Ways to Conserve Gas

Combine your errands into fewer trips.

This might seem silly but so many times have I just pulled up to home and forgot to stop at the store or forgot to grab something.

Write a to-do list for your errands and make them all in one go to save on gas.

Less the weight you are carrying around

You may not even think of it but the amount of weight you are carrying around in your car can directly effect the amount of gas you consume.

Clear out any unnecessary weight such as modifications to your roof or hitch, items in the trunk, etc.

Use cruise control on the highway

I swear I always forget to use cruise control but this is a great way to help lessen the amount of time you spend romping on the gas and can help you conserve your gas tank.

Make sure your tires are inflated properly

Properly inflated tires are a must right now. If you don’t have an air station near you, head to Costco. They have free air machines and will even help you put air in your tires.

Carpool when possible

Ask neighbors, friends, etc. to carpool to work throughout the week. If you don’t live near anyone, taking public transportation is likely cheaper than a full tank of gas each week. That way, you can save your driving for the weekend.

Take advantage of loyalty programs at grocery and warehouse stores

Just about everyone knows that you can get discounts on fuel at Costco, BJ’s and even Sam’s Club. If you don’t have a membership, ask someone you know to take you to fill up. Or, if you are able to have someone get you a Costco gift card, you can use it in-store and at the fuel center without a membership.

Places such as Kroger/Smith’s also offer discounts on gas depending on the amount of groceries you buy so take advantage of buying groceries and saving on gas.

Turn off your car while waiting

Did you know that you use less gas by restarting your car than leaving it idle? It’s true. Idling is not only bad for the environment, it’s bad for your gas tank and wallet too.

Hopefully these ideas will help you conserve gas and make your hard-earned money go further at the gas center.
