It has been a good 2 years since we have been able to really consider and enjoy cruises.

And now, according to the CDC, people should avoid cruise travel EVEN if you have been vaccinated.

Why? They are floating petri dishes. We all know this, and if you think about it, it’s a little gross. LOL!!

There have been a RECORD number of Omicron cases — this particular variant spreads like wildfire — and the CDC is warning that it “spreads easily between people in close quarters on board ships, and the chance of getting COVID-19 on cruise ships is very high.”

It said the travel health notice upgrade from level 3 to level 4 “reflects increases in cases onboard cruise ships since identification of the Omicron variant.”

If you go buy a color-coded chart, cruise ships are at “level yellow” on a color-coded CDC chart, which means ships are at the threshold of reported cases, for which the CDC will investigate.

Obviously, if you are at a higher risk for catching COVID, you should avoid the close contact of the cruise ship like the plague. BUT, there is even a concern for those NOT at high risk and those who have been vaccinated.

Remember, just because you have been vaccinated against the coronavirus does NOT mean that you can’t catch it. It just means you have better chances that you won’t need to be hospitalized or that you will have a better outcome if hospitalization is needed.

ALSO, just because you have been vaccinated does NOT mean that you can’t spread the virus to others. It will still hang out in your nasal passages, and can easily be spread to those at high risk or unvaccinated.

If you do chose [sic] to cruise, the CDC said be sure to receive a vaccine booster if eligible and to wear a mask in shared spaces onboard. Those who are “not fully vaccinated” should also quarantine for five days after cruise travel, they said.

This news comes just after so many flights have had to be canceled or reconsidered because of the Omicron variant.

Basically, just avoid cruises for now if at all possible. Better safe than sorry!
