By now, you have inevitably heard the sad news that Chadwick Boseman has passed away from colon cancer at the age of 43.

Marvel/Disney

Chadwick had brought us rolls such as Jackie Robinson (42) and James Brown (Get on Up), but he is perhaps best known for his portrayal of T’Challa — Black Panther — in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It was already expected that his performance in the upcoming Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, as the ambitious trumpeter, Levee, would put him in the running for top honors during awards season.

But, what about the upcoming Black Panther 2 sequel that was supposed to hit theaters in 2022? It hadn’t yet begun production, though the release date has already been announced, and people have been eagerly awaiting its release.

This wouldn’t be the first time that the MCU has recast lead characters — notably Mark Ruffalo replacing Edward Norton as the Hulk.

Fans, however, are having none of it. They don’t think anyone else can portray T’Challa as wonderfully and perfectly as Chadwick has already done. Honestly, I agree.

And, really, would you want to step into those shoes?

But then, what would that mean for the future of Black Panther and the franchise that is the MCU? Of course, this is unknown at this time.

Everyone is just devastated that Chadwick is gone so soon. It is really too fresh a tragedy to discuss things like movie sequels.

I’m sure we will learn more about Black Panther in the future, but for now, let’s let his family and friends have the time they need to process such a great loss.
