We started this year off after experiencing the death of someone that nearly everyone loved… Betty White.

But with endings and death comes new beginnings as well as new life.

A one-month-old blue penguin that was born at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden has been named in Betty’s honor.

Betty White Was A Huge Animal Lover

Betty White was a huge animal lover and many celebrated her birthday by contributing to animal shelters, rescues, and animal welfare programs across the country.

Betty White was a huge zoo supporter and animal lover.

Cincinnati Zoo director, Thane Maynard, said in a statement.

I think Betty would be so excited to know that the Ohio zoo named the little blue penguin ‘Rose’ to remember her and her dedication to the animals.

The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden made the announcement on January 17th, the date that Betty would have celebrated her 100th birthday this year.

I had the pleasure of making her acquaintance years ago when she attended a Cincinnati Zoo fundraiser. We introduced her to our first ambassador cheetah, Angel.

When Can We Meet Rose The Blue Penguin?

Rose, the little blue penguin is about to move into the zoo habitat at the Cincinnati Zoo with about 30 other penguins.

According to bird team head keeper Cody Sowers, Rose is healthy and on track to move to the little blue penguin habitat soon.

Zoo guests will be able to see Rose as soon as the weather starts to warm up since blue penguins are native to Australia and New Zealand and prefer warmer weather than other types of penguins.
