Redoing the Bedroom…

So…. I have been thinking what is the point of knowing how to sew if you can’t sew yourself up a perfectly awesome bedroom, right? I have a pretty good bedroom, but it has always been missing that certain wow factor… and I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that it doesn’t flow… so I have decided to give it some flow, yo…

Here is the canundrum I face… my husband and I sleep under separate comforters… I know I know… that sounds weird, but dude… he sleeps under this big thick heavy comforter, and I just can’t handle that! I sleep under this light fluffy airy comforter, and it makes me happy… I like to be very cool when I sleep… he likes to be all warm and cozy. For the longest time this caused quite a problem when choosing bedding… until one day when he was sleeping under a particularly heavy comforter, I pulled out the lightweight one we had recently taken off the bed and got under it… and we were like NICE!!! So…. from there on out… we each get our own special comforters!

Now… the problem is since we sleep under different comforters, we both HATE duvet covers, and we don’t like the same weight of comforter… how in the heck can we find things that match? Well, I did find two different bedding ‘sets’ that can totally coexist…

The key is the Bohemian bedroom! We need patches of funky fun and like fifty different materials all to make our bedroom gel into one big bedroom of awesomeness! So… the first pic up there is the bedskirt from both bedding sets… kind of sewn together to make a super long bedskirt that just barely kisses the ground… So far I have only sewn one side… but so far I think I am kind of liking the way it is all turning out! I took my mom upstairs and made her check out the two sets to see if i can make them mesh… and she says she can totally see it! She said I needed to add more orange though… and I found this awesome orange flowery print for two bucks a yard at Wal-Mart last night… so I bought a few yards and I figure I can add in a couple of pillows or something awesome with them… I am planning to use Amy Butler’s Silhouette Pattern with some of my leftover fabric from the bed sheets of the sets (I am not a huge fan of sheets from sets… I like plain white sheets… I see those sheets more as free material to make aweseomness with now that I am all Mcsewey and junk.) to make the wall art, and I even have this other super plan for another art thing on the OTHER wall…

haha so anyway, I think my bedroom is going to be all cute, shappy chic, and custom looking… and for quite cheap! Go sewing!
